There’s NOT an App for That

As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.  They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.  When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.  Luke 6:46-48 NIV

It seems like there is an app for everything these days…an app to run our home security systems, an app to preheat our ovens, an app to run our sprinkler systems, find home repair, sell our wardrobes, instruct us how to exercise and so on!  The list is endless!

But do you know what there is not an app for?  Never could be an app for?

Time spent.

There is nothing that can replace or substitute the time we spend.  We all have 24 hours in a day, and it is our choice how we spend them.

I believe that one of the most important things we can spend our time doing is learning about the Father and growing in our relationship with Him.  If we are truly going to live this life intentionally, we need to start by growing closer to the Father.  He is the foundation we will build everything else in our lives on.

Being intentional in our relationship with the Father doesn’t have to be complicated…actually, it’s quite the opposite!

I remember when I was first beginning my walk with Jesus.  I would get up in the mornings while it was still dark and read my bible.  It was quiet and I could really take in all that the Father was teaching me.  I didn’t understand everything I read at the beginning, still don’t sometimes!  But I would get up and dive in expectantly for what He had.

But after I had the twins, my quiet, bible reading mornings went out the window.  As any mom knows and understands, I had been up and down all night with the boys and when morning came it was just a continuation of the night.  I thought it would just be a “season” and I would get back to my regimented routine shortly.  However, we have one boy that rises before the sun, still to this day at 6 years old.

My morning routine never did return…and I fought that internally for a long time.  And then one day the Father spoke so tenderly to my heart as I was rocking both boys in our big rocking chair… “It’s not about when or how beloved, but it’s about the time you spend with me.  Stop making it so hard.”

The Father isn’t looking for our regimented routines, He is just looking for relationship.  He wants to talk to us, hear from us, be with us.  He knows exactly what we are going through, dealing with and what our stumbling blocks are.

Don’t get hung up in what it looks like; what time it is, where you are, what bible you
have, what highlighters you use, and all the things we let complicate it.  Just spend some time beloved.  That is all He asks of us.

With love,

Tana
