When Life Bombards Us

 

Good morning!

Anyone else feel absolutely bombarded by life lately?!  I know, I know, it’s summer right!! But along with swimming pools, T Ball, bike rides and frog catchin’ there is still work, chores, cleaning, etc. that needs done.

I totally feel like life has been controlling me lately instead of me putting life together in a planner.  LOL

But when we get bombarded and overwhelmed with all the activities that make our worlds go ’round I am learning that as long as my heart is grounded where it should be…everything else will work itself out.

There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.  1 Samuel 2:2

There is no one else in the whole world that will ever fill our hearts like the Father does.

There is no other Rock that will ever be firm enough to hold us when life bombards us.

So, as we all dive into the second half of summer, let’s plant our feet firmly on the Rock, keep our eyes on Jesus, and our hearts set on His Word.

What Are You Magnifying?

What are you magnifying_

For your Maker is your husband – the LORD Almighty is his name – the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.  Isaiah 54:5 NIV

Good morning!

What are you magnifying in your life?  You know…that thing you can’t stop thinking about. We can magnify the Good or we can magnify the bad…

It is easy to get swept up in our current problems and let our minds roll over and over trying to figure out an answer or make a plan as to how are going to combat it, or try to figure out how we even got here in the first place.  A few things that get magnified in our lives are

  • Health Concerns
  • Special Food Diet
  • Exposure to allergies, chemicals, and germs

But as we let our minds run wild with thoughts all we are actually doing is magnifying the challenge we face.  We take our situation and make it bigger and bigger and bigger in our minds until it becomes all consuming.

Do you have something in your mind that you are magnifying?

Is our situation bigger than our God?  The God of all the earth?  The one who laid its foundation and binds up the waters? 

Not likely.

Instead of magnifying our current situation friend, let’s magnify God.  Let’s lay down our anxiety at His feet and lift our eyes to Him. Let’s start making Jesus bigger in our days and step into the peace that comes with trusting Him in and through ALL things.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday!!

Good morning!

Can you believe it is Thursday already?  This week has flown by full full of fun and fellowship time with our great family from Oklahoma.

A few things that come to mind for me today are:

  • Relationships built
  • The gifts that God has given us
  • Great visits with old friends
  • Hearts poured full with the Father

A Necessary Perspective Shift

Thankful Thursday!!

Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.  Philippians 4:6 AMP

Some days it seems like there is more to worry about than be thankful for.  Fear can loom all around and suck us into anxiety.  But what if we shifted our perspective and our thoughts to all the things that we can ALREADY be thankful for?

This is a common verse we hear and see but what if we read it every single day?  And what if we ACTUALLY put it into practice every single day?

My life would look different.  What about yours?

Today I am thankful for:

  • Jesus
  • Sunshine
  • Coffee
  • Giggles coming all the way from the barn
  • Nuzzles from my favorite sorrel horse
  • Snuggles before bed

The Power of Our Thoughts

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.  Philippians 4:8 NIV

Good morning!

What is the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning?  Today you might have immediately rolled over in your pillow and thought, “ugh, its Monday”, and all that comes with starting a new week.  It is so easy to let our thoughts immediately focus on ourselves, our lives, our jobs, our plans…

But what if our first thoughts were on Him?  What if we shifted our focus from ourselves: our day, our plans, our job, etc. to Jesus…

I want to encourage you this week to start your everyday with a simple prayer.  It might look something like this:

Father, thank you for today.  Thank you for walking ahead of me and behind.  Thank you for surrounding me with your love.  Father help guide me today in your wisdom and your strength.  Help me to keep my eyes on you and follow hard after you.  In Jesus Name, Amen

I believe that if we start each day by focusing on Jesus we will start to see change in our perspectives, change in our attitudes, change in our hearts and change in our thoughts…all for the better!

The Power of Community

Good morning!

The last couple weeks have been completely unbalanced and unpredictable.  From the time changing, to a massive blizzard, to Qwade being in the hospital, to being stuck at home for 10 days for his lungs to heal, to broken computers and stolen bank information.  Seriously…sometimes there are no words.

Have you ever walked through a trying time?  When the hits just kept coming and you had to keep going or you might just fall apart?

As I called my mom last week to vent my frustrations about my brand new computer that mysteriously wouldn’t turn on anymore and that someone had stolen my debit card information and was trying to purchase things in Oregon (all on the same day) I told her, “I think if I don’t laugh I will cry”.

But as our family has walked through these couple of weeks the Father has shown us something that we really needed to see… He is showing us the power of community.  

There have been so many people step in to pray for our family and words cannot express how grateful we are.  We have had family step up and help with our other son, friends brought me coffee at the hospital (much-needed coffee), a nurse who helped me get checked out and watched Qwade while I waited on the pharmacy, a church family who wrapped their arms around us, and multiple other texts, cards, calls and support.

God has shown me just how much we really do need community…

  • people to love us and encourage us when life gets hard
  • people to celebrate the victories with us
  • people who pray for us when we can’t find the words to pray ourselves
  • people who hold our hands in their hands
  • people who sit and listen while we cry

There is power in community.  The power of Jesus.  And when we stand in unity as a community of believers there is no mountain that He cannot move.

You Are Enough

It is so easy to get caught up in trying to be everything to everyone.  Trying to balance the roles we play as mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, employee, etc and what is expected of us in each of our roles.  We can get swept up trying to be “everything” before we know it.

But only Jesus can be our everything… and when we don’t feel like we are enough we can rest in knowing that He is.

  • When we are weak, He is strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • When we are weary, He is our power.  (Isaiah 40:29)
  • When we are tired, He gives us rest.  (Matthew 11:28)
  • When we are shaken, He is our rock (Psalm 62:2)
  • When we fear, He is with us, He is our comforter.  (Joshua 1:9)

So let’s take a deep breath this week and stop trying to be everything and let Jesus be our everything.

Finding Joy in the Little Things

Good morning!

Finding joy in the little things…When I look at the smile on this boys face as he sips full strength juice it makes my heart smile.  As I sat on my bench watching him I began to think about all the things we already have, all that Jesus has already done, to bring a smile to our faces.

It seems that most of the time we tend to focus on the things we don’t have.  We plan, we strive, we set goals, and we work hard.  All good things!  It keeps us moving forward, but it also keeps our focus on things we don’t have yet.  And if we aren’t careful we become dissatisfied with where we are.

Let’s not forget to remember all the things He has already done for us.  It is so good to stop and look and think and smile.  Smile at the gifts He has given us.

When Life Runs Crazy

Good morning!

Sometimes our days can run out of control.  We catch ourselves coming and going and backtracking and unsure of how we are going to get to where we are headed.  Let’s be honest, sometimes we can even lose track of exactly where it was that we were headed in the first place.

I love how the scriptures talk over and over about Jesus going before us and being behind us but I especially love here in Psalms 139 where it says You hem me in...it’s personal.  It shows us that His love surrounds us all the time, and that He cares deeply enough for each one of us to hem us in when we need it.

Let’s pause and take a few deep breaths today and let Him hem us in.
