I was reading along in my bible yesterday when the words Jesus spoke to the Jews struck me in a whole new way. He said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (NIV)
I immediately stopped and thought about our current pandemic and the worry, stress and fear of so many, including myself. It sure hasn’t felt like freedom to be confined to home, full of worry and fear of the unknown.
But Jesus says in this passage, “IF you hold to my teaching” you are really my disciples. THEN you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
Note He does not say “if you hold onto your emotions”.
It is so easy to get caught up in our emotions and become enslaved to them. I had without even realizing it…
But I refuse to be a slave to:
•worry
•stress
•fear
•sadness
•anger
Or any other emotion I might be feeling right now.
We must cling to the TRUTH; the very word of God in times of struggle and hardship. We must choose to hold onto the teachings of Jesus so that we KNOW the truth and the truth can set us free!
Have you become a slave to your emotions? To fear, stress, or worry? Let’s join together and lay them at the feet of Jesus and receive His unending grace.
