National Day of Prayer
Good morning!
Today is the National Day of Prayer. This is a special day that has been set apart for us, the people, to come together in unity and lift our voices to the Father. I encourage you to pray today for the world, our country, our leaders, the people, our families, the church and everything that is on your heart.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NASB
We are living in anxious times. The Coronavirus struck fear and panic in the hearts of so many as it spread from country to country over the last few months. Most of us have been quarantined, shut off to the outside world and many have lost their jobs or at the very least part of their income. This has been a time that left people wondering how they are going to support their families, pay their bills and protect the ones they love. This pandemic has affected every single one of us in its own way.
But Paul tells us here in his letter to the Philippians to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. It is believed that Paul was in prison when he wrote these words. Being locked in chains and sitting in a prison cell is enough to make anyone anxious. But Paul wrote to be anxious for nothing. Paul had placed all his confidence and his trust in the One he knew was above all things. He believed the message of Jesus and had spent his life proclaiming it from the very day the scales fell off his eyes and he was a new man, able to see. (Acts 9:18)
We need to stand today in unity and trust in the One that we know is above all things. Today we have an amazing opportunity to stand firm in our faith and be the light that shines in the darkness, just as Paul was doing in his days. We can release our fears, worry, doubt, insecurity and anything else that we are experiencing in prayer to a Father who loves us and cares for us.
When we draw near to Him, he draws near to us. (James 4:8) What better time than right now? What better day than today to join together in unity and draw near to the Father? I hope that you join in praying today!
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
