How to Recover After a Season of Unbalance
Balance.
I have never really like that word. It has always implied "having it all together" in my mind and life has been anything but all together. Life has been messy.
Since the Coronovirus outbreak and quarantine started back in March, life has been anything but dependable and I have struggled to keep up with all the changes that are going on around me. I went from having a really good routine, to having none. I went from being highly productive, to scrambling with approaching deadlines. I went from scheduled, quiet working hours to crazy, loud chaos with us all under one roof.
Can you relate?
I kept telling myself that we would find routine again. That we would begin to adapt and start to function highly in our new environment. But you know what? We didn't.
I realized that after months of expecting routine to find its way into our home and magically take hold of our everyday lives, it wasn't going to. We had to choose it.
Choosing Change
Change doesn't just happen. If we want things to change, we must take ownership of our current situation and then take the action steps of implementing the changes needed.
This starts with praying and hearing from the Father. We all have priorities, but do our priorities align with what God has intended for us?
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
I am learning that not everything can be a priority. There are only so many hours in a day and how I spend my time matters. Am I walking fully in what God has called me to? Or am I scrambling to do too much?
The fastest way to a season of unbalance is to get ourselves over-committed and try to do too much in our own strength.
Commit to Change
Change is hard. But what is even harder is committing to it day after day. There is always something that comes up, isn't there? But if we don't commit to the changes we establish, we will fall right back into our old habits.
Do you know where old habits lead to? Unbalance.
God never asked us to do everything all the time. We do that to ourselves. We must stand firm on what we believe the Father has intended for us in this season and walk confidently in it. He will help us!
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Follow Through
It becomes easy to follow through and walk confidently in what we know God has for us when we take the time to listen to Him. When we seek to hear His voice over all other voices, our priorities become clear.
He will guide us and give us His peace when we follow through obediently.
The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:26-27
Finding New Balance
I am starting to see the word balance through a new set of eyes. It isn't about "having it all together", but about letting God have it all.
When we give Him all that we are, He can turn our messy, unbalanced life into one of direction and purpose.
If you feel the weight of an unbalanced life weighing you down, I encourage you to spend some time in prayer with the Father. Only he can show us the way.
With love, Tana
