Day 4: Child-Like Joy at Christmas

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 (NIV)

Good morning!

The joy of a child at Christmas is infectious. Our boys wanted to put up the Christmas tree after all our family and friends went home Thanksgiving evening! “Please mom!!! Please dad!!!” they begged as we sunk into the couch that night after a wonderful day of hosting.

As parents, our hearts are filled with so much joy watching them in their excitement. Their eyes glow just like the little twinkling lights that circle around the tree. It is so easy for a child to believe in the joy of Christmas; the decorations, the gifts, the activities, the lights.

These are all the tangible things that we can see and experience. But for us to experience the true joy, the Spirit-filled joy of Christmas, we must open our hearts. Open them up to believe in the true gift of Christmas, Jesus.

Opening our hearts to Jesus allows us to have joy all year, even after the tangible treasures of Christmas are taken down and packed away. We may find temporary happiness this Christmas season, but when we open our hearts to Jesus, true joy will never leave us.

What would it be like if we had the child-like excitement about the good and perfect gift of Jesus? Would we love a little deeper this Christmas? Laugh a little harder? Reflect His love a little brighter?
