Day 19: Keep in Step with the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against these things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-25 (NIV)

With only a few days left before Christmas, we as a family find ourselves in the same position as a lot of other families…about 47 things left to do and only a few short days to do it in. I keep telling myself “it will be fine, right?” At this point it would be easy to walk outside the Spirit and become selfish with my time, my priorities and the things I must get done or I can choose to walk in the Spirit.

How do we live our lives by the Spirit? We open our hearts to love. When we open our hearts to love, we open them also for joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. But it all starts with love. Love that came in the form of a baby boy. Love that gave Himself up for us. Love that leads to restoration and freedom in Christ Jesus.

When we choose to walk in the Spirit, we choose to love others well, and when we love others well all other characteristics of the Spirit will overflow.
