Day 15: Rejoice

Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Philippians 4: 4-5

Only 10 more days until Christmas!  Is anyone else’s joy building as the days go by?  We have so many forms of countdown in our home this year that we can’t help but grow in joy every day.  The boys wanted calendars this year so they could cross off the days, we also have their Christmas tree cutouts from our home school work and we have our Jesse tree that we put ornaments on each evening.  So just in case we missed it somehow, we have plenty of reminders!

But this truly is an exciting time!  As I sat outside yesterday for a couple of minutes to catch some sunshine I was thinking about how amazing it is that we get to rejoice, that we have a God who sent us a Savior into the world at this very special time of year.  And that he alone is worthy of our praise.

Joy truly is something that we get to choose every day.  It is not just an emotion we feel, but a fruit of the Spirit that lives on the inside of us.  I love how in the scriptures it is tucked in right there between love and peace.  (Galatians 5:22) I believe that when we can love others because we are loved by Him we find His joy. Real joy and that leads us into perfect peace.

So even when we don’t “feel” joy we can dig deep and ask God to reveal it to us because it is already in us.  No matter what is going on right now, what circumstances are lurking, what stress is trying to creep in, what worry has us, release them all to the One who came to save us and trade them for his indescribable joy.
