Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4: 7-8
We all have a perception of what we think love is. Our perception is usually shaped from experiences during our life, good and bad. Some get raised in a home with loving, generous parents while others suffer abuse, loneliness, abandonment, or any other hard circumstance. Some believe you have to work for love, earn it. It is these circumstances that tend to shape our perception of what love is.
Someone once told me that we can only love others to the degree that we ourselves understand love. I’ve thought about that statement many times over the years as my understanding of what love is has grown and changed. At first I wasn’t sure I understood, but we must be willing to let go of what we “think” love is and draw closer to the good and perfect Gift so he can show us what love truly is.
Yesterday we talked about 1 Corinthians 13 and what love is. Love is a big circle of all of these little parts perfected in Him to make it whole… without God it cannot be whole because God is love.
I believe that there is no better time than this Christmas to open our hearts to true love. Christmas is all about love…and God is love.
